MEDICAL CLINIC

Masks are not compulsory at REACH. However, if you have cold and flu like symptoms, it is required that you wear masks for the protection of others

Core of our health services

Our medical clinic operates with a multi-disciplinary approach, involving a team of dedicated providers with varied and complementary skills and qualifications. This means that care is provided by family doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, counsellors, and social workers. We provide care in the clinic and at home. Our health care services are generally only available to registered and active clients of REACH. The health care program at REACH is funded by Vancouver Coastal Health to provide quality care to individuals and families with complex health and social needs.

Appointments

Most visits are by appointment. To book an appointment, please call our office at 604-216-3134, or book online at the link below. We offer a small number of same-day appointment slots for emergency medical issues as well. This can help avoid emergency room and walk-in clinic visits for conditions that can best be addressed by your primary care provider.

Drop in services have been suspended to reduce the number of people attending the clinic at the same time. If you need to speak with a medical provider, counsellor or social worker urgently, please contact our front desk and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Lateness/Cancellation Policy

We try to accommodate as many patients as possible every day and being on time helps us do this. In the case of lateness, your appointment will be reduced by the amount of time you have missed. If you are more than 15 minutes late you may be asked to wait or reschedule. If you need to cancel your appointment, please contact us so we can offer the appointment to another patient.

After-Hours Care and Out-of-Clinic Visits

Operating hours for REACH Medical can be found on the Hours page.

Outside clinic hours we recommend that you contact HealthLink BC to speak with a nurse for health-related information and support, and we have our own provider on-call for urgent issues. Unless you feel that your health concerns are life-threatening, there is no need to go to the emergency room until you have spoken to either the provider on-call or Healthlink BC. This may save you a long wait in emergency department.

To contact a doctor after hours, call 604-216-3134 and leave a message. If you are not contacted by a doctor within 20 minutes, please call back. To contact HealthLink BC dial 811

Please note: The Medical clinic phone lines are closed 12:30 – 1:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, however the clinic remains open. On Wednesdays the Medical clinic is closed 12:30 – 2:00 for staff meetings.

Our Medical Team

Team-based care means our patients get the benefit of treatment by multiple roles, such as:

  • Medical Office Assistants (MOAs) keep the clinic running smoothly and communicate with you and our health care professionals. They will gladly make an appointment with a health care provider for you, assist you with referrals, and answer any questions you may have. Feel free to contact them by phone at 604-216-3134.

  • Doctors and Nurse Practitioners take a comprehensive approach to providing high quality primary care. They are dedicated and compassionate professionals who create a safe and respectful environment to address all your health care needs.

  • Registered Nurses (RN) are specially trained to assess, diagnose and treat minor and acute conditions and illnesses. They are also trained to provide preventative health care by doing Pap tests, immunizations, routine infant growth and development visits, birth control counselling, and sexually transmitted infection testing and follow up. All of our nurses work collaboratively with your physician to ensure complete care.

  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) perform lab procedures, coordinate patient management with RN’s and assist clinicians with exams and procedures. They also contribute to the administration and coordination of activities of the clinic.

  • Allied Care professionals provide supportive counselling and social work services to REACH patients. Our in-house social workers are available to see you on an individual basis to provide short-term supportive counselling, disability supports, and provide information and referral to external community resources. Our registered clinical counsellors are now seeing patients to provide individual or couples therapy.

REACH provides innovative, high-quality primary health and dental care, and social, and educational services to support the physical and mental health and well-being of our community and individuals within it. We are a non-profit with funding from Vancouver Coastal Health, revenue from our dental clinic and pharmacy, and grants from community and governmental agencies. However, donations from our supporters can help us do more for our wonderful, diverse community.
