Who Are We?

REACH Community Health Centre has been providing community-based health care for fifty years, and strives to be more than just a doctor or dentist's office. Our interdisciplinary team offers a variety of health and social services under one roof.

What is Team-Based Care?

Team-based care is a collaborative approach to delivering compassionate, culturally-sensitive and patient-centred healthcare to positively impact the lives of our community members

Original location of REACH community health centre

Standing for Research, Education, and Action for Community Health, The REACH Centre was developed in 1969 by paediatrician Dr Roger Tonkin as a site for University of British Columbia Medical residents to gain practical medical experience in the community. Over the years the clinic has grown beyond its educational roots to a full health centre, with an increased focus on immigrants, reflecting the multicultural makeup of our community. REACH has always been on Commercial Drive, and in 2017 it opened its new, expanded facility.

Our Mission Statement

REACH Community Health Centre is a community-governed organization that believes that good health is a state of physical, mental, and social well-being. We provide innovative, high-quality primary health and dental care, and social and educational services to support the physical and mental health and well-being of our community and the individuals within it.

Our Values

Access

We believe that all people, regardless of gender, race, ability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age or other economic or developmental factors should have access to an appropriate and wide range of integrated health and social services.

Equity

We recognize economic or developmental factors that affect access to health care, and we are committed to reducing health inequities through our programs, services, and advocacy.

Respect

We believe in the dignity and self-worth of all people, where the client's autonomy, voice, and right to informed consent is respected, and endeavour to support all cultural perspectives on health and healing.

Quality

We acknowledge that a person's health must be understood holistically, with an appreciation for the interrelationship of physical, social, emotional, and spiritual aspects.

Community

We recognize the role that community plays in the health of its residents and the importance of developing community partnerships and engagement, encouraging community development, and providing community health education.

Communication

Recognizing the impact of social and economic health status on population health, we will take steps to educate our community and partners about the importance of addressing health inequities and support our service providers to provide proactive care.

VIDEOS

In partnership with students in Simon Fraser University's School of Interactive Arts & Technology, REACH has created a series of videos that highlight the important work REACH does within our community.
